Beginner Cable Skills

If you want to start your journey toward knitting cozy fisherman sweaters or elegantly braided scarves, then this class is for you! This class is geared toward beginners who are curious about cable knitting, who can knit, purl, cast on, and bind off confidently.

You will learn how to knit a cable using a cable needle, read a cable chart, and deconstruct a cable in the wild. We will explore and practice knitting a variety of cable forms, from ropes to braids to honeycombs. As a final project, you will draft and knit a cable scarf built from your favorite cables!

Please bring to the first class:

• One skein of worsted weight yarn bought from Norwich Knits, already wound into a ball or cake
• An appropriately sized needle (any of the sizes listed on the yarn label will do, bring size 8 if unsure), either flat or circular (24” or longer if circular)
• A cable needle, any variety
